I bought a Casino, made in Korea at the Peerless factory about 2 years ago. Awesome guitar - brilliant clean tones, awesome neck.
The guitar was very top heavy, and when you let go of the neck, the headstock would head for the floor Fast forward about a year after that purchase, I am in a guitar store and see a John Lennon Casino on the wall.
Granted, not an elitist, but in the ballpark. Better balance, slightly thicker neck, more resonant when played unplugged.
I fell in love, but the price tag made it not to be. After seeing, touching and playing that guitar, the Korean felt like a toy.
For me the biggest difference between the two is something that can't be upgraded after market - it's got a 5 ply body, as opposed to the 3 ply in the Korean.
This creates the balance and the resonance, and just makes the guitar feel more true to the original. Pair that with Gibson P90s that come stock, the awesome light matte poly finish, and the guitar is a dream.
I guess what I'm saying is, if you only have the cash for the standard - go for it - it will still give you that Casino tone. Just don't go picking up any other models in a store, because it might leave you feeling like you settled.

The only thing that is lacking from the Casino design-wise is the imbalance between the 2 pickups. When you have both pickups on, it's very neck heavy, and the bridge kind of gets lost.
It almost sounds like you're solely in the bridge position. There's a couple of ways to fix this - the shim like Mainsale did, or like I do I just turn the volume down a touch, maybe to 7, on the neck pickup.
Alot of people also complain that the Casino feeds back in high gain situations - it's a full hollowbody, with no centerblock.
I've never really had much of a problem with feedback, as 1 I don't do any high gain stuff, and 2 you just gotta figure out where to stand.
Aug 11, Sorry, can't offer a comparison as I have only played and own the standard Casino. But I will say that I'm so happy with it that I feel like they could have charged a few hundred bucks more and it still would have been a good deal.
I don't have an issue with top-heavyness and the stock P90s are pretty darn ballsy. And when it wants to start howling I just find another place to stand.
